The nomination process is still the same (even if it is just a formality), the writing test is not entirely new, just a different form (from a multiple choice grammar test to an essay) and there were no "interviews" in the in-person assessment. If there's anything encouraging it's the mention of a larger pool of applicants. But the article is wrong on so many other fronts that this isn't particularly credible. My guess, good as anyone else's at this point, is 900 finalists.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3990418600488025880.post-23590448034862926532011-03-21T12:00:20.019-07:002011-03-21T12:00:20.019-07:00Thanks for sharing the article. Not that most of you would know, but it was a vast improvement over the earlier orientation. Moreover, in speaking with some of the PMF reps, I think they've recognized how the program has been rather limited to certain schools (primarily East Coast Ivies and near-Ivies) and to certain programs (public affairs, law &c), and they're working to expand it to a wider group of people.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3990418600488025880.post-4754556979982665672011-03-18T10:10:28.637-07:002011-03-18T10:10:28.637-07:00The only guidelines it appears that they've ha...The only guidelines it appears that they've had in the past is to select everyone from DC and other East coast schools and completely ignore the rest of the country.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3990418600488025880.post-34163895351386000392011-03-18T09:45:12.441-07:002011-03-18T09:45:12.441-07:00At first I was thinking about the EEOC guidelines ...At first I was thinking about the EEOC guidelines and thought it may not apply, but then recall the Ricci Case (CT firefighters) and the notion of disparate impact regarding employment discrimination. If the exam (or related hiring processes) has a disparate impact on protected groups (gender, ethnicity, religous, disabillity), meaning zero or very few make the finalist list, OPM could run into problems.

Apparently many years ago, the FSO exam had a disparate impact upon women and there was a class-action suit that resulted in women being retroactively determined to have passed the exam.

So yeah, I'm thinking they're consulting with the lawyers, which invariably takes more time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3990418600488025880.post-81017132914011382232011-03-18T08:48:40.393-07:002011-03-18T08:48:40.393-07:00OPM would not be allowed to selected based on regi...OPM would not be allowed to selected based on regions and schools unless those criteria were specifically listed in the job announcement or some other official document.
