2011 PMF In-Person Assessment: Locations

[Also posted on GovLoop]

In-person assessments for the 2011 PMFs begin on Tuesday, January 18 and run through Friday, February 18 at four locations throughout the U.S. According to the PMF Program Office, all notifications have gone out, so all 1530 of you should be scheduled for an assessment date and location (assuming you went ahead with it). The next step is getting to the assessment location.

The locations are as follows (also available on the PMF Program's Facebook page here):

Washington DC:

I can't speak for the other cities, but I can at least tell you that public transportation directions are not available for Washington, DC, directly from Google Maps (they are, but aren't accurate). Use Google Maps to orient yourself and then use wmata.com to get routes and timetables. Any advice for the other cities would be appreciated.

  1. For those going to Chicago, I would recommend staying at the Chicago Hosteling International (~$35). I used to volunteer at their front desk when living in Chicago. It's super clean, quiet (probably more so during Jan/Feb) and great staff. If you're looking to stay in a hotel in any of these places, priceline.com's bidding for travel is a great way to save money. I stayed in a DC hotel for $71 last summer (on a weekend). Good luck!

  2. Good point about hostels. Hosteling International also has a centrally located building in DC, and it's 1/3 to 1/4 of the price you'll find at an average DC-area hotel. San Francisco apparently has three to choose from. Unfortunately, I didn't find one for Atlanta, but Atlanta is not a very expensive city compared to the other three.

  3. I hope they release info on how many people actually end up taking the assessment. It will be interesting to see. Has anyone been selected as a semi-finalist and is not planning on taking the assessment? If not, why?

  4. Does anyone know the exact in-person assessment dates? Do the assessments range from, say, Jan 17th to Feb 4th?

Also, I'm curious to hear what people think the 5 minute presentation will be on. How can they standardize a presentation to ensure fair comparison among candidates... what kinds of topics will we be presenting on? Will it be from our own knowledge or will we receive some data / information to compile into a few powerpoint slides to present?

  5. They're starting Jan 18 and I've heard of people doing their assessments as late as the final week of February.
